Iran’s Parliament Says Talks Could Solve Problems With 5 +1

Kayhan, Mehr, and Fars

Two-hundred and thirty-nine members of Iran’s parliament issued a statement advising the 5+1, the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council plus Germany, to stay away from the mistakes of the past. In their letter, the MPs asserted: “Thursday’s (October 1) negotiations are an important test for the 5+1 group. We warn them that this is an historic opportunity which can open this stalemate and solve the problem.”

According to state-run Mehr and Fars news agencies, the Iranian side is stronger today than ever, after testing new medium and long-range missiles on September 27. Fars News claims that Iran’s hand is much stronger going into the 5+1 meeting in Geneva, which will be held October 1, after Iran tested these missiles.

Mehr claims that the Western and the Arab media gave Iran’s missile test ample coverage because they are afraid of Iran’s military capabilities and will run out of options should Iran decide not to continue participating in the negotiations.
